Griffon Hanger
Regular price $500.00
16 steel components
8-10 ounce black leather
Elaborate systems were devised to suspend a sword from your hip throughout the Middle Ages and renaissance period. It may have reached its zenith in the Elizabethan age with the Rapier Hanger. Used to sling a rapier from a belt at a jaunty angle, it was a fashion statement in and of itself. The many metal elements were often decorated in a motif to accent the costume or match the weapon. This excellent example is based on a surviving example in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
The 17 individual steel elements of this hanger are finished in a bright brushed finish. The decorated pieces have an incised design of a stylized griffin. The belt, straps and body of the hanger are heavy black leather.
