Large two handed swords were created in the late middle ages and early Renaissance period. They were enlarged versions of the common swords of the day and soon began to transition into their own unique style and forms. This is an early version of these large swords. effective in combat their purpose was also to intimidate. they would have been used to show authority and maintain order for commanders as well as dealing awful blows to opponents. The extreme length of this sword allows for an exceptional reach. With both hands well spread on the long grip for proper form the movement of this sword is more about finding its rhythm then trying to muscle the piece into action.
The hilt is steel fittings with a black leather grip with a cross hatched pattern riser under the fore grip. The guard is a gentile S shape in the plane of the guard and ends in cusped finials. The sword has a large wheel pommel with inset hubs.
