This Seax is based on one of a pair of original blades in The Oakeshott Collection. The large profile and thickness of these pieces really brings the brutal reality of Anglo-Saxon era combat into focus. A versatile and long lived weapon was a dominate style of knife for several centuries. These fighting knives evolved across the continent in countless configurations—from modest belt knives a few inches long to full-sized single-handed swords.
These large war knives would have dealt incredible blows with their sharp edge and heavy weight. The formidable stout point would also give good account in a thrust and the weight of the knife would make deflection difficult.
The grip is ash stained brown and bound at the end in silver wire. The blade is hand forged and hardened with a stout back spine. The scabbard is black leather with bronze fittings on the seam and around the opening. It has two rings for suspension from belt.
