Today we take a look at a custom project we recently completed, a spear or ghiaverina based on an illustration from Fiore De Liberi's ~1400 fight book, The Flower of Battle. This is a massive spear for both thrusting and cutting with a hardened and tempered high carbon steel blade that is seventeen inches long, three inches wide, and 5/16th's of an inch thick. It features parrying lugs and a hardened butt-spike on an ash haft. The whole spear weighs about four pounds and is just over eight feet long.

As always, our swords and other weapons are entirely made by us, by hand, at our shop in Minneapolis, MN. Sword blades are hand ground of 6150 carbon steel, hardened and tempered to 50-52 Rockwell. Nathan Clough, Ph.D. is President of Arms and Armor and a member of the governing board of The Oakeshott Institute. He is a historical martial artist and a former university professor of cultural geography.
