The 13th Century was an era that saw the rise of new forms of weapons like this double-edged fighting dagger. The cross hilted dagger became popular with knights and soldiers of this period and several forms are seen occurring in art that mimic sword forms of the time. This particular style has a tri-foil shaped pommel and slight arched guard.
The bible was most likely produced in the northern regions of modern France, around 1240 to 1250. Sometimes called the Maciejowski Bible after a cardinal of Cracow who owned the Bible in the early 17th Century.
Representing an early form of what is often considered the classic style of medieval fighting knife, this dagger is just right for those looking for a 13th Century piece.
