The type L shaped axe heads have a cutting edge that is canted forward allowing the striking surface to impact along the length of the edge when hitting an upright human shaped target.
This is similar in size to our Danish Type L War Axe, a very popular item, but with the addition of a reinforced cutting edge. The axe body increases in thickness just behind the edge and then tapers to the sharp. This provides excellent durability and only reduces the slicing action of the head slightly. This detail is seen on many surviving axes in this style, the London Museum having several excellent examples.
The edge on this axe is hardened. It is mounted on a hand selected ash haft created for the axe.
