Featuring Items from Arms & Armor

We have worked with The Wallace Collection for over 20 years crafting reproductions and doing research on Medieval Arms and Armor. Our most recent collaboration involved the exhibit "Making The Renaissance Sword"

The beautiful writhen rapier they have in their collection was the basis for a series of reproductions showing several steps in the construction of a rapier, as the renaissance craftsmen would have approached the project. The result is a series of hilts ranging from raw components to a full-scale reproduction of the original sword.

The construction of these different elements where done mainly with forge and hand tools. The detail of the writhed bars where hammered to shape then refined with file work.

The grip was formed of a body of hardwood and then the different twisted wire strands where wrapped about the core followed by the turks heads being added at the top and bottom.
